manna-goes-green-web-design1 Web Server = 1 Gas-Hogging SUV

Total Equivalent Impact:
Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year.  That’s correct; the average server produces the same emissions as a 15 mpg SUV.

Because of this, Manna only uses servers powered by renewable energy sources.  Our data centers, maintained by HostGator, use wind power from wind farms across Texas.  The cumulative effect of powering our data center with green energy is astounding.

Using the latest in Cloud technology, this is often the view from our virtual office – some beautiful lake, beach or mountainside.

Manna Employees are Forced to Walk To Work!

It’s true.  All of Manna’s employees walk to work every single day, but it’s not as bad as it sounds.  For over five years Manna’s offices have been virtual, located all over the Mid-Atlantic Region.  How does that help with our green effort?

The EPA estimates the average passenger vehicle gets 20 MPG.  Each gallon emits 20 pounds of carbon dioxide.  Manna employees were traveling about 170 miles per day. So…

170 Miles/Day = 42.5 Gallons Gas/Week = 850 Pounds of CO2/Week = 42,500 Lbs CO2/ Year.

It takes almost 4 acres of Douglas fir trees working an entire year to absorb that much CO2.

We’ve Got Our Head in the Clouds!

As of 2010 Manna has turned off its energy hogging servers and moved all our company files to the Cloud.

Why?  Besides being more reliable with redundant backups, 24/7 onsite network engineers, and being accessible from anywhere in the world (we’re big on working pool-side), recent studies have shown Cloud Computing to reduce the IT carbon footprints by up to 90%.  With the world’s IT consuming over 2% of the world’s energy, reducing that by such a significant amount is a good step forward.[/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1457114409907{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 25px !important;padding-top: 40px !important;padding-right: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;padding-left: 30px !important;background-color: rgba(255,255,255,0.78) !important;*background-color: rgb(255,255,255) !important;}”]

There’s Power in Numbers!

We’re small, but we’re trying to do our part!  We encourage our friends and clients to make similar efforts and together we’ll make quite a difference.
